Ordering 200mm Flame Cut Steel: Edge Condition, Slag, and What to Specify

200mm is YUNCUT's maximum flame cutting thickness. At this thickness, edge condition, slag volume, and part geometry must be discussed and confirmed before production starts — not after.

200mm Is Near the Operational Limit

Cutting steel at 200mm requires the highest oxygen pressure, the largest nozzle size, and the most careful preheat management in the range. Not all flame cutting facilities operate reliably at this thickness.

At YUNCUT, 200mm orders go through a pre-production review. Part geometry, material grade, bevel requirements, and edge condition specifications are confirmed before cutting starts. This prevents problems that would otherwise only appear on delivery.

Edge Condition at 200mm

Surface quality is controlled according to material, thickness and project requirements. At 200mm the cut face is typically rougher than thin plate, and drag lines (striations on the cut face) are more pronounced.

If your application requires a smoother edge — for weld fit-up, assembly interface, or inspection purposes — specify grinding at quotation stage. Grinding allowance must be considered in your part dimensions.

Slag Removal Standards

Slag volume at 200mm is substantially higher than at 50mm or 100mm. Standard slag removal is included in the order scope — all accessible slag is removed before inspection and packing.

If your application requires a specific slag-free condition (for example, edges that will be directly inserted into machined housings), state this requirement explicitly. Standard removal may not meet every application requirement, and confirmation prevents re-work disputes.

Beveling Review at 200mm

At 200mm, beveling is outside YUNCUT's typical 80mm beveling range and must be reviewed case by case. Specify the target angle, groove type, root face (land), and affected edges so feasibility can be confirmed before quotation.

Complex or double-sided grooves at 200mm require explicit process review. Processing sequence and any plate-handling requirements are confirmed before quotation and production.

What to Specify in Your Order

  • Material grade and any specific heat treatment or impact testing requirements
  • Tolerance requirement — state if tighter than ±0.5 ~ ±1.0 mm is needed on specific dimensions
  • Edge condition — standard finish or additional grinding when scoped
  • Bevel specification: angle, groove type (V/K/X), land height, which edges
  • Surface treatment if coating preparation is required
  • Part geometry — long narrow profiles need distortion management confirmation

Lead Time for 200mm Orders

Lead time for 200mm orders depends on order scope and is confirmed at quotation. Complex parts with beveling, grinding, or difficult geometry typically take longer. Confirm lead time at quotation stage and plan accordingly — 200mm orders are not candidates for rush production.

Final cutting capability depends on material grade, thickness, plate size, geometry, tolerance and engineering review.
