Where grade equivalents can cause problems
Welding procedures
Preheat requirements, filler material selection, and post-weld heat treatment depend on material chemistry. If your welding procedure was qualified for EN S355 specifically, a GB equivalent may require re-qualification.
Certification requirements
If your project specification requires a JIS or EN mill certificate, Chinese GB material mill certificates may not satisfy that requirement. Confirm what certification format is acceptable before ordering.
Impact testing
Some applications require Charpy impact testing at specific temperatures. Not all grade equivalents include the same impact testing requirements as standard. Confirm if impact values are required.
