Cutting 150mm and 200mm Steel Plate: Flame Cutting Parameters and Edge Finish
At 150mm and 200mm, flame cutting is the applicable process at YUNCUT. The method is established, but at this thickness range, parameters and heat management require careful setup before cutting starts.
Why Heavy Plate Cutting Is Different
At 150–200mm, heat accumulation is significant. Cutting speed is slower than thin plate, which means more time on the same part and more total heat input.
Long, narrow parts are the highest risk for thermal distortion. A 2000mm × 80mm plate at 200mm thickness will behave very differently to a 500mm × 500mm square. Part geometry must be reviewed before cutting starts.
Flame Cutting Parameters at This Thickness
Oxygen pressure and gas flow increase significantly at 150–200mm compared to thinner plate. Nozzle selection, preheat time, and piercing method all affect edge quality and slag volume.
Tolerance for 150–200mm flame cut plate is ±0.5–1mm. This is the achievable range under production conditions. If tighter tolerance is required, discuss before ordering — some dimensions may be achievable with adjusted parameters; others require machining.
Edge Finish and Slag Removal
Surface quality is controlled according to material, thickness and project requirements. Slag volume at 150–200mm is noticeably higher than at 30–50mm. Standard slag removal is included in the order scope.
For parts requiring weld-ready edge condition (Surface quality is controlled according to material, thickness and project requirements.), specify grinding at quotation stage. For parts requiring coating preparation, shot blasting Sa2.5 is available up to 2700×8000mm part size.
Heat Affected Zone (HAZ)
HAZ width depends on cutting parameters, material grade, thickness, and any preheat used — there is no single universal value for 150–200mm plate. For structural steel grades (Q235, Q345, A36, S355), the HAZ is generally manageable for typical applications; confirm your edge condition and welding requirements at quotation stage.
For high-strength grades (Q460, Q690, S690) or applications with strict HAZ requirements, preheat may be required depending on grade, thickness, specification, and process review. Confirm material grade and any HAZ limits at quotation stage.
Beveling Review for 150–200mm Plate
For 150–200mm plate, beveling is outside the typical 80mm capability range and requires case-by-case feasibility review. Do not assume a standard angle or groove capability at these thicknesses without confirmation.
If a bevel is required, specify the target angle, groove type, root face (land), and affected edges before quotation. YUNCUT will confirm whether the requested process route is feasible before production.
Capacity and Lead Time
Maximum panel size is 5500mm × 30000mm. For structural components requiring large unjointed plates, this can avoid mid-span welds in many cases.
Lead time for 150–200mm orders depends on order scope and is confirmed at quotation. Orders with beveling, large quantities, or complex geometry typically take longer. Confirm your schedule at quotation stage.
