Cutting 100mm Steel Plate: What to Know Before You Order

100mm steel plate sits in the middle of the flame cutting range. Laser cutting covers up to 55mm, so 100mm means flame cutting. Here is what to confirm before the order starts.

Why Flame Cutting Is Used for 100mm Steel

Laser cutting at YUNCUT handles 0.5–55mm. Above that, flame cutting takes over. At 100mm, flame cutting is the established process — not a workaround.

The flame cutting range is 30–200mm. 100mm falls comfortably in the mid-range where the process is well established.

Tolerances and Edge Quality at 100mm

Tolerance for flame cut 100mm plate is ±0.5–1mm. For many structural applications, this is acceptable without additional machining — confirm against your drawing and tolerance requirements at quotation stage.

Surface quality is controlled according to material, thickness and project requirements. Slag removal is standard. Flame cutting creates a heat-affected zone (HAZ) along the cut edge; its exact width depends on cutting parameters, grade, and thickness. If downstream welding or machining is planned, discuss edge condition requirements with the production team.

If your downstream process requires machining or tight fit-up, specify a machining allowance on the relevant edges at quotation stage.

Maximum Plate Size and Capacity

Maximum flame cutting panel size is 5500mm × 30000mm. For large structural components, this can avoid mid-section welds that would otherwise be needed for smaller panels.

Beveling Review for 100mm Plate

For 100mm plate, beveling is not a standard capability assumption. Requirements above the typical 80mm beveling range are reviewed case by case. Send the target angle, groove type, root face, and affected edges for feasibility review.

If beveling is required, specify it before production so the process route can be reviewed and included in the quotation.

Lead time is confirmed per order at quotation. Orders with beveling, large quantities, or complex geometry typically take longer than simple cut-to-size scope.
